Posted by Picasa It's quite a view when you're having your coffee isn't it! I think the Pantheon was one of my favourite things in Rome - the area was interesting and friendly (although graffiti-ridden) and gypsies played lively music on accordions while their children were chased away by restaurant staff. But the Pantheon itself is fabulous; huge but accessible. It was built as a pagan temple 2000 years ago and was converted into a christian church in the 7th century when passers-by complained demons lived there. There is a huge hole in the roof providing the light - it is supposed to look spectacular when it rains but on the day we were there the sun stubbornly flaunted its dominance in the Roman sky.
