Our second treat was this morning - a trip up the estuary to the mangrove swamps. Luckily the water taxi is only a short distance from the house because my calves ached so much when I woke that I could hardly make it into the bathroom. I then had to drape scarves and sarongs over my back and shoulders because of the sunburn (how do I get sunburned? I sit in the shade with factor 50 and a hat but still the sun likes to have its little joke) – Sue reckons I look very English and I don't think that's a compliment! I left before the children had got dressed because my stiff-legged rocking motions are not efficient for covering even small distances, and we all arrived at approximately the same time for the most amazing adventure watching the abundant wildlife up the swamp – including vultures, termites and a crocodile! Mr Crocodile was just basking on the bank with his mouth open waiting for unsuspecting tourists to step into it but we took photos instead. It was a very special outing.
